Course: Personal Space
Site: Cherry Beach
Year: 2019
Cherry Beach was known as a place for fun and relaxation during the hot summer. It also served as an escape for people facing injustice, which became a gathering space for people experiencing homelessness and members of LGBTQ2S+ community. However, there was a lot of violences and crime reported, where many of them were often beaten by police for their homelessness and sexualities. My design intent was to create a space where everyone can gather to bring back the sense of ownership and community responding to the history. The location of the architecture mimics a tree house where you feel protected and embraced by trees. The indoor space provides privacy, yet the outdoor area serves as a social space for the visitors.
